HOW IT WORKS

Size Every Account by Risk, Not a Fixed Number

A fixed size risks more on a wide stop and less on a tight one, and the same contracts mean different risk on a $25,000 and a $150,000 account. With risk-based sizing, each account trades the number of contracts that keeps the loss at the stop within a budget you choose.

ℹ Contracts = risk budget ÷ (stop distance × $ per point), rounded down. Example: risk $200 with a 20-point MNQ stop ($2 per point, so $40 per contract) → 5 contracts.
THREE WAYS TO SET IT

Per Strategy, or for Every Alert

A % OF EACH ACCOUNT'S BALANCE

Copy Settings → RISK %: every account risks the same share of its own balance, read from your broker.

RISK_PERCENT IN THE ALERT

Add "risk_percent": 1 to a strategy's alert message to size that strategy by 1% of each account.

RISK_DOLLARS IN THE ALERT

Add "risk_dollars": 200 to risk a fixed dollar amount per trade on each account.

STOP AND TARGETS IN DOLLARS

Prefer dollars to points? Use sl_dollars, tp1_dollars, tp2_dollars and be_dollars, per contract. On MNQ, a $40 stop is 20 points.

ℹ Example alert message: {"action": "{{strategy.order.action}}", "symbol": "MNQ1!", "sl_dollars": 40, "tp1_dollars": 30, "tp2_dollars": 80, "risk_percent": 1}
GUARD RAILS

It Never Guesses a Size

MAX CONTRACTS STILL APPLY

Your max-contracts settings cap the result, and each account's multiplier still applies on top.

10% LIMIT

A risk of more than 10% of an account's balance is refused, so a typo can't size a trade 100 times too big.

NEEDS A STOP

Without a stop in the alert there's nothing to size from, so the trade isn't placed — and the Alert Inbox says why.

TOO SMALL FOR ONE CONTRACT

If the budget is smaller than one contract's risk, nothing is placed rather than rounding up.

FAQ

Common Questions

How does CopyTrade work out the number of contracts?

Contracts = risk budget ÷ (stop distance × the contract's dollars per point), rounded down. Risking $200 with a 20-point MNQ stop gives 5 contracts.

Can each account risk a percentage of its own balance?

Yes. With Copy Settings → RISK %, or risk_percent in the alert, every account uses its own balance from the broker, so a larger account trades more contracts for the same percentage.

Can I set the stop-loss and take-profits in dollars?

Yes. Use sl_dollars, tp1_dollars, tp2_dollars and be_dollars in the alert, in dollars per contract, instead of the point fields.

What happens if the size can't be worked out?

Nothing is placed, and the Alert Inbox shows why: no stop in the alert, no balance from the broker, a budget smaller than one contract's risk, or a risk over 10% of the balance.

Does it still respect my max contracts?

Yes. Max contracts and each account's multiplier still apply after the risk-based size.

What does it cost?

CopyTrade is $35/month for up to 5 accounts or $45/month for unlimited accounts, after a 7-day free trial with no credit card.
