The Rule That Fails Most Prop Accounts
Most evaluation and funded accounts fail on the trailing drawdown, not the daily loss limit. The level trails your highest balance, so a winning run raises it, and one bad stretch afterwards can take the account. Automation makes it easy to keep trading without noticing how close you are.
A Threshold Kept From Your Broker's Balance
Enter your firm's numbers
On the Accounts page, open DRAWDOWN for an account and enter its max drawdown, how it trails, and — ideally — the firm's current threshold from its dashboard, so CopyTrade starts from the same level.
CopyTrade follows the threshold
It reads the account's balance from your broker and keeps the threshold moving the way your firm does: intraday with open profit, at the end of the day, or not at all. An optional "stops trailing at" level matches firms that stop trailing at a set balance.
New trades stop before the line
When the account is within your safety buffer of the threshold, alerts stop opening new trades on it, and — if you choose — CopyTrade closes its open trades. You get an email and a push either way.
Matches How Your Firm Trails
INTRADAY
The high-water mark follows equity, open profit included, the moment it moves.
END OF DAY
The level moves only at the 5 pm ET close, from the closing balance.
STATIC
A fixed level that never moves.
STOPS TRAILING AT
Many firms stop moving the threshold once it reaches a level such as the starting balance — enter it and CopyTrade does the same.
Other Ways CopyTrade Protects an Account
DAILY LIMITS PER ACCOUNT
Give each account its own daily profit target and loss limit. Reach one and that account's open trades are closed and it stops for the day, while your other accounts keep trading.
NEWS PAUSE
Optionally stop new trades around CPI, the jobs report, FOMC and other high-impact US releases, and have open trades closed when the pause starts.
NOT-CONNECTED ALERTS
Fifteen minutes before each session opens, every account is reconnected, and any that can't be are emailed and pushed to you.
STOP-LOSS WATCH
If a stop is ever cancelled, rejected or missing while a position is open, you see it on the dashboard and get an email, plus a push alert if notifications are on.
Common Questions
Does the drawdown guard replace my prop firm's own rule?
No. It keeps a copy of the threshold from your broker's balance and the numbers you enter, and stops trading before the account reaches it. Your firm's dashboard is always the final word.
Which trailing drawdown types does it support?
Intraday trailing (follows equity including open profit), end-of-day trailing (moves at the 5 pm ET close), and static. You can also set the level at which your firm stops trailing.
Can it close my open trades?
Yes, if you choose. Otherwise it only stops new trades and leaves open positions with their stop-loss and targets.
Which brokers does it work with?
Tradovate and Rithmic accounts use the balance with open profit and loss. TopstepX reports only the balance, so there the guard updates when trades close.
What if CopyTrade can't read the balance?
The guard shows that it has no balance yet and doesn't block anything on a guess.
What does it cost?
CopyTrade is $35/month for up to 5 accounts or $45/month for unlimited accounts, after a 7-day free trial with no credit card.
